Salt Lake County Trails
Jacks Mountain

Distance: 3.2 miles roudtrip
Elevation: 1,442 ft gain
Time: 2 hours

This peak will kick your butt! Steep, short, all exposed. Lots of up-and-down, but making it to the mailbox feels so rewarding. The mailbox up top is for leaving ‘Jack’ kind notes-he was a kid who dies of cancer many years ago.
Wild Flower Loop
-
Distance: 8.15 miles roundtrip
Elevation: 4,530 ft gain
Time: 5-6 hours

This trail is TOUGH, exposed, and the views are very unique! I saw at least 4 piles of bear scat when I hiked this September 2023, and there was not much water after the first mile so doing this in heated months is not recommended unless you start early. I hit a small peak on the way down to the Needles Gondola to then catch a free ride down to Snowbasin where I enjoyed live music, beers, and a ride from my husband back to my car at the trailhead. :)
Heughs Canyon Trail
-
Distance: 3.4 miles roundtrip
Elevation: 1,264 ft gain
Time: 2-3 hours

This trail to me is ‘short n sweet’ offering deep-canyon-like views right out of a neighborhood. You cross a small boulder field to get to a hidden waterfall. Great hike for after work, and lots of shade/water for summertime.
Ferguson Canyon Trail
-
Distance: 3.2 miles roundtrip
Elevation: 1,460 ft gain
Time: 2-4 hours
-
I haven’t hiked this trail since 2020! It follows a river up the canyon and provides a lot of shade, but beware in the hot summer months-there tends to be rattlesnakes in the beginning (I tried hiking here again in 2021 and after being feet away from TWO, we turned back).
Avenues Twin Peaks
-
Distance: 3.8 miles roundtrip
Elevation: 1,223 ft gain
Time: 2-3 hours
-
This is a classic peak to bag in SLC-one of my go-tos. This is easy-moderate for most hikers. Goes up-and-down across the hills above the city with beautiful scenery each way. There tends to be mud during spring, but you’ll see foothill wildflowers!
Meridian Peak
-
Distance: 3.7 miles roudtrip
Elevation: 768 ft gain
Time: 1-2 hours
-
An outstanding trail in the spring time! The end offers a steeper ascent, but the 360 degree views are amazing. The beginning starts out crowded at Tunnel Springs Park, but not many people go to the peak. Just try not to get behind the photographer’s shots!
Neffs Canyon
-
Distance: 1.3 mile loop/roundtrip
Elevation: 460 ft gain
Time: 1-2 hours

You can kindof go as far as you want but the easy-going trail is great for getting the dog outside or enjoying a
